Education

Let’s grow your knowledge

My teaching grows out of the same ground as my design work: Permaculture Design and Teaching certifications, and a Diploma of Sustainable Living, alongside years of hands-on garden-building and workshop facilitation. Whether you're taking your first steps into permaculture or working toward your own PDC, there's a place to start below.

My Qualifications

  • Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC) w/ Advanced Social Systems Design

  • Permaculture Teacher Certificate

  • Diploma of Sustainable Living

Introduction to Permaculture

A one-day, interactive, in-person workshop covering the ethics and principles of permaculture, and a first introduction to systems thinking.

Delivered through the Ballarat Permaculture Guild, it's the natural entry point if you're new to permaculture — giving you a strong foundation, and for many, sparking the pull toward deeper learning through the full Permaculture Design Certificate.

Dates are posted here as they're scheduled — check back to book your place.

Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC)

I teach into the Ballarat Permaculture Guild's full Permaculture Design Certificate — the internationally recognised qualification for anyone wanting to design their own productive, resilient landscape, whether that's a backyard, a farm, or a community space. It's a deep-dive course delivered in-person over multiple months (weekends). I bring my own design practice and teaching experience to the sessions I lead.

For dates, structure, and enrolment, see the Ballarat Permaculture Guild's current PDC listing.

Yard to Yield

(2025)

This workshop series followed the real 12-month garden build at my own property from first observations through to harvest, grounded in permaculture design principles at every stage.

Designing an Edible Garden - The Permaculture Way

Sunday 25th October, 10.00-2.00

The Art Room @ Vickers Street Community Hub, Sebastapol

An beginner-friendly workshop on the Permaculture way of designing home food systems. The classroom content outlines the Ethics and Principles that distinguish permaculture from conventional approaches, and introduces the design process. The theory is made practical with a visit to my property for exploration of my edible garden system with plenty of time for Q&As.

$30 - members of Ballarat Permaculture Guild/Concession

$50 - public

Bring Permaculture to Your Group

Beyond these programs, I'm available to teach locally — tailoring sessions for whoever's in the room, from primary-aged children to adults new to gardening.

This might look like:

  • A school incursion tied to sustainability, food systems, or the science curriculum

  • A session for a community group, garden club, or men's shed

  • A workshop for a neighbourhood house, library, or family day care service

  • A talk or hands-on session for seniors' groups, workplaces, or holiday programs

If any of this fits what you're after, get in touch and we can talk through group size, age range, setting, and whether a one-off session or a short series makes more sense — I'll put together a program and teaching fee to suit.
